Bless Your Heart Devotions: Tutus & Boo-Boos

When I ask my Children’s Sunday School class for prayer requests, invariably a bubbly tomboy-in-a-tutu named Hanna, sporting a head full of curls and sparkly shoes on the wrong feet (she likes to dress herself) will push aside the ruffles to point out her latest boo-boo and explain what adventure placed it there.

You might chuckle if you saw the half healed scar on the chubby knee, but this 4 yr. old is entirely serious about bringing her little hurts and pains before the Lord.

Can you imagine the sunny day when parents brought their children to Jesus to have him pray for them? Sweaty little children running about everywhere, crying, laughing, tugging on the Disciples robes and pointing out the boo-boos they wanted Jesus to pray for, while the frustrated Disciples, growing weary of running a day care service for the Master, rebuked the parents for bringing their children to Jesus. Didn’t they know HE had more IMPORTANT things to accomplish!

Mark 10:14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Then Jesus said an astonishing thing:  Mark 10:15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

How grand it must have been to be the little child who sat on the lap of the creator of the universe, the Word made flesh, the Great Physician and let him tenderly touch the scrape on their knee and lovingly listen to their little story of how it got there. The scriptures assures us that He hasn't changed a bit!   Isa 59:1 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

I may be a little too old to be sporting a tutu, but little Hanna has a few things to teach her teacher. Hanna firmly believes that Jesus cares about every one of our wounds, hurts, pains and scars. Nothing is too small or too big to bring to His attention. Unfortunately our grown-up boo-boos may include financial set-backs, health distresses or marital issues, but He still calls for us to come unto Him and lay them in his lap.

Children don’t have blind faith, they are FULL of Faith. Every loving parent sees this light of faith in their children’s eyes when they come boldly to them with a petition; in full assurance, completely trusting and resting comfortably in the knowledge that their parent loves and cares for them and wants what is best for them. No doubt about it.

“For of such is the Kingdom of God”.

Jesus calls for us to be like little children, full of Faith, trusting and resting comfortably in the knowledge that our Heavenly Father loves and cares for us and to be fully assured that He simply wants what is best for us. No doubt about it!

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Heb 4:16)

I wonder if sparkly shoes would look good on me?

  1. Love it!
P.S. - I would recommend someone of your age to wear the sparkly shoes on the right feet--even though you dress yourself. ;-)

  2. LOL! So true. I saw last Sunday that they were HELLO KITTY sparkley shoes. I don't think they make them in my size.
