Bless Your Heart Devotion: Driving around in Circles

Leaving Asheville, NC last weekend, we drove 4 hours back to the Atlanta airport to return our rental car and board our plane.  Navigating the airport's vast construction zone with heavy traffic and few signs was confusing.  When we had exited the airport 4 days earlier after a red eye flight and over 24 hours of no sleep, we had paid little attention to the conditions of the airport.

We arrived this time with 3 hours to spare, giving us plenty of time to return the car, eat lunch, go through security and board the plane, or so we thought. Fortunately our plane was late, for we ended up circling the airport several times in one big construction zone loop 'd loop because we couldn't find the NEW Car Rental Return Center.  The address on the rental receipt was wrong and the GPS preferred the old return center that did not exist anymore.

I called the Rental Agency and asked them to direct us in, but they were just as confusing.  However, we did understand the word "right" and finally turned right, just past the little construction sign that we had previously misunderstood.

After having little sleep all weekend and driving four hours that morning, we were hungry, tired and ready to get the 5 hour flight to Phoenix over with. The meaning of that little construction sign just never sunk into our weary brains.

International Flights
Car Rental Returns

The sign was there all along, we were just reading it wrong.  Our weary brain dead minds had searched for the DOMESTIC FLIGHTS CAR RENTAL RETURNS and groggily pondered dropping the car off at the International Flights parking lot and let THEM drive it over to the domestic one. hahahahahahahahahahaha!   Ok, we were just dumb that day!

Once we made the correct right hand turn, the one and only International Flights Car Rental Return Center suddenly appeared before us like the land of Caanan!  After we got through security and ate at Five Guys, this all became a bit more amusing. :-)

LIFE IS LIKE THIS!  Just the art of navigation can be exhausting. Instead of clear sailing as planned, we often find ourselves trapped in a confusing, messy construction zones with no clear direction. We are weary and our internal GPS has gone haywire, everything has changed and we are just going around in circles getting nowhere!  We hear a voice calling us to get "right".  What RIGHT?  Where is the RIGHT?!!  Our cloudy thinking leads us around in confusing circles while the little sign pointing out the right way has been sitting there all the time, we just didn't pay attention to it because our understanding of it was all wrong.

You just gotta know who to ask directions from and then trust the Lord when He tells you to turn into the right way:

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6
