I saw a tree that fell today
toppled in its canopy of green;
Trunk untouched by disease it seemed
until insides were outwardly seen.
The once proper image of verdant health
hid infirmities in its heart;
Now visible veins of soot expose
a hollowed cavern of dark.
Despite the seasons of growing green
Winds and rain prevailed;
Weakened and worn, the core gave way
the standing tree was felled.
Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine;
Neglect not the gift that is in thee.
For the place where the tree falleth,
There forever it shall be.
